Environmental Laboratory Technician

 

Description:

  • Collect environmental samples from designated sites following established protocols.
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and transportation of samples to the laboratory.
  • Conduct a range of chemical, physical, and biological tests on environmental samples using analytical instruments and techniques such as chromatography, spectrophotometry, and microscopy.
  • Analyze test results to assess pollution levels, identify contaminants, and evaluate compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Interpret data accurately and document findings in reports.
  • Perform quality control checks on equipment, reagents, and procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Maintain proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing test results, methodologies, and conclusions. Present findings to supervisors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring environmental parameters and compliance with permits, regulations, and industry standards. Participate in environmental monitoring programs and audits.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, methodologies, and regulations related to environmental testing.
  • Contribute to research projects aimed at improving analytical techniques and environmental monitoring practices.
  • Follow strict safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to laboratory regulations, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with other laboratory staff, environmental scientists, engineers, and regulatory agencies to coordinate sample collection, testing schedules, and data interpretation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of sample information, test results, equipment maintenance, and other relevant documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with data management protocols and confidentiality requirements.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred for certain positions.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation commonly used in environmental testing, such as GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, and titration.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for report writing, data presentation, and collaboration with team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while adhering to strict deadlines and safety protocols.
