Financial Controller

Description:

Whitefish Search Partners is hiring an experienced Financial Controller to take on a key leadership role within a stable, medium-sized organization based in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Reporting directly to the President, the Financial Controller will serve as the primary leader for the finance function, ensuring sound financial management, compliance, and business insight.

This is a hands-on position within a well-established, debt-free business. The role includes overseeing general accounting, cash flow forecasting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), and budgeting. In addition, the Controller will manage one Staff Accountant and contribute to broader business operations, requiring adaptability and a willingness to wear multiple hats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all day-to-day accounting functions and company accounts.

• Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial reports in accordance with US GAAP.

• Conduct cash flow forecasting and ensure the financial health of the organization.

• Assist the executive team with financial planning, strategy development, and performance analysis.

• Oversee the budgeting process and ensure accurate forecasting to support decision-making.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial laws and regulations.

• Collaborate with the President and other departments to align finance with operational strategies.

• Supervise and mentor a Staff Accountant, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial tasks.

Educational & Professional Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles.

• Strong command of current financial software systems and tools.

• Deep understanding of US GAAP and corporate financial practices.

• Proven experience with cash flow forecasting and FP&A responsibilities.
