Gift Shop Floor Supervisor

 

Description:

The Portland Art Museum (referred to as Museum) invites applications for the position of Gift Shop Floor Supervisor. This position has a bird’s eye view of daily operations including scheduling, store and store’s website maintenance, merchandise display, and overall staff well-being. It also requires an active role on the sales floor, providing customer service, as well as a fundamental understanding of products, inventory levels, and operational systems.

Ensure smooth daily operations on the sales floor by implementing protocol and modeling proper sales techniques to shop staff, ultimately furthering the mission of the museum. This position reacts to the ever-changing environment of customer needs and situations. The need for flexibility and constantly recalibrating priorities based on circumstance is vital.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit, supervise, train, and motivate floor sales staff
  • Manages daily sales reconciliations; cash handling
  • Creates schedule based on expected foot traffic
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate floor stock and organized stockroom
  • Responsible for ensuring smooth functionality of eCommerce platform while monitoring for issues/bugs
  • Provide backup to ECommerce Associate by posting merchandise, pulling orders, and replying to customer issues in store and online
  • Keeping track of incoming inventory and ensuring it is properly displayed in store and online
  • Maintaining Google Sheet for eCommerce orders that need attention or have issues and bringing these to the attention of the Shipping/Receiving Coordinator and Store Buyer
  • Communicating and resolving issues for customer orders on website and in store
  • Responsible for overall housekeeping and appearance of shop
  • Ensures timely pricing of freight
  • Responsible for processing shop staff timecards
  • Proactively communicate with buyer on issues that need to be elevated as well as merchandise reorders needed
  • Guide the team onsite to achieve sales and project goals
  • Having product knowledge on the thousands of products and vendors carried at different times, as well as the necessity to quickly adapt to changing circumstances


Secondary or Additional Responsibilities

  • Seasonal display changes and set up for special events
  • Coordinating staffing for off-site events
  • Conducting thorough annual physical inventory
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee three Gift Shop Sales Associate along with one ECommerce Associate
  • Decision making authority are made within PAM policy constraints
  • Daily cash reconciliation and money drop
  • Inventory and schedule records
  • Supervisory duties include: recruitment, mentoring, performance management, training and coaching
  • Final judgment calls on customer service scenarios, merchandise display and aesthetic calls
  • Informally makes recommendations concerning long-range operational planning

Education, Formal & Informal Experience, Training Required, Certification, Etc.

  • Minimum 2 - 4 years successful retail and management experience
  • Minimum 1 - 2 year eCommerce experience
  • Experience with a point of sale system
