Description:

KITCO Fiber Optics, part of Marmon Holdings and backed by Berkshire Hathaway, is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to lead its Technical Services team. This leadership role involves managing fiber optic termination, testing, troubleshooting, blown fiber installation/removal, and splicing operations across various shipboard systems. The ideal candidate will bring extensive technical expertise, mentorship abilities, and a commitment to excellence in supporting mission-critical naval communications infrastructure.

The role requires coordination of field operations, mentoring junior technicians, ensuring Navy-standard compliance, performing advanced splicing, interpreting technical drawings, operating optical test equipment, and supervising work aboard ships in challenging conditions. The position also involves domestic and international travel, on-call support, and collaboration with project managers and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate field service operations across fiber optic tasks.

  • Mentor and train junior technicians in termination, testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Oversee blown fiber system installation/removal per Navy standards.

  • Perform advanced splicing and support tasks on shipboard networks.

  • Interpret complex technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and instructions.

  • Operate and guide others in using optical test equipment to verify performance.

  • Review and approve test and inspection documentation.

  • Maintain and calibrate termination and testing equipment.

  • Supervise work aboard ships, including confined spaces, heights, and extreme conditions.

  • Coordinate travel logistics for field service teams.

  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to meet deadlines and standards.

  • Perform additional leadership duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or industrial school certificate required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearance.

  • Must pass drug screening, physical exam, and background check for Navy access.

  • Must have a valid U.S. passport and willingness to travel, including overseas.

  • Availability for overtime, on-call, and emergency tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years shipboard fiber optics/electronics experience.

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in technical field operations.

  • Navy IC/ET/AT/EM background or trade school graduate.

  • NAVSEA fiber optic certification or ability to certify per Navy standards.

  • Proven expertise in installing, terminating, and inspecting fiber optic cable assemblies.

  • Advanced proficiency with optical test equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to meet military standards.

  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat, and twist for extended periods.

  • Lift and transport equipment/boxes weighing 30 lbs or more.

  • Work on ladders, in confined spaces, aboard ships, and in industrial environments.

  • Operate in heat, humidity, noise, dust, and other challenging conditions.

  • Work aloft or over the sides of vessels as required.
