Description:
CGS Federal (Contact Government Services) is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistants to provide litigation and administrative support to United States Attorneys. Working under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor, you will play a critical role in supporting attorneys, investigators, and paralegals in handling complex legal cases. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to government innovation and support critical legal operations while working in a collaborative and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct legal support services, including preparing, proofreading, and editing legal documents such as charging instruments, motions, orders, subpoenas, pleadings, and correspondence.
Electronically file legal documents with state and federal courts in compliance with local court rules.
Support trial preparation by assembling trial notebooks, witness lists, and exhibit lists.
Prepare and track grand jury subpoenas, organize legal data, and process supportive materials for court filings.
Draft original letters and correspondence requiring knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology.
Perform ancillary office support functions, including docketing duties, maintaining calendars of active cases, scheduling hearings, and tracking deadlines.
Manage case files by assembling, maintaining, and closing files in chronological order while ensuring all required documentation is properly filed.
Provide litigation assistance in trial preparation and courtroom presentations, including preparing charts, visuals, and technical exhibits.
Perform general office duties such as answering phones, handling visitors, and delivering documents to the courthouse.
Utilize a variety of software applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat) for document preparation and database management.
Assist attorneys with courtroom presentations by creating trial exhibits, enlargements, and technical materials.
Qualifications:
At least 1 year of specialized litigation experience required; 3+ years preferred.
Experience preparing and reviewing legal documents such as motions, subpoenas, complaints, pleadings, and orders.
Skilled in legal research, file management, and preparing case materials for hearings and trials.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines and pressure.
Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
