Legal Counsel

Description:

Xcel Energy is seeking highly skilled legal professionals for multiple levels of legal counsel: Assistant General Counsel, Principal Attorney, and Senior Attorney. These roles provide legal guidance to Xcel Energy and its management, overseeing complex legal matters, business transactions, and regulatory compliance. Candidates will provide leadership, counsel, and support in corporate, utility, administrative, and litigation matters.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing leadership and legal counsel to management on corporate, regulatory, business, and strategic matters.

• Preparing contracts, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.

• Representing Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies, and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.

• Acting as a primary point of contact for business areas and potentially supervising attorneys depending on role level.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

• Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, to practice law in the relevant state (New Mexico, Texas, or reciprocity).

• Experience level varies by role: 3–6 years (Senior Attorney), 6–10 years (Principal Attorney), 10+ years (Assistant General Counsel).

• Superior verbal and written communication skills; leadership experience for higher-level roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Utility industry experience.

• Experience in Administrative Law, court proceedings, and litigation.

• Licensed to practice law in New Mexico (for relevant roles).
