Description:
Montgomery College is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to design, supervise, and manage the construction of building mechanical systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and control systems. The Mechanical Engineer will apply engineering principles to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable building operations. This position reports to the College Architect and is located at Central Services, Rockville.
Key Responsibilities:
Meet with users to determine mechanical requirements and assess existing conditions.
Design HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems for new construction and renovations.
Prepare engineering drawings and manage permitting processes with governmental agencies.
Collaborate with the Procurement Department to prepare bids for contracted construction work.
Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with designs and manage contractors.
Provide construction administrative services, including reviewing submittals and contractor pay applications.
Serve as the mechanical engineering subject matter expert for the College.
Review engineering drawings and plans from outside consultants for accuracy and coordination.
Inspect existing facilities’ engineering systems and develop capital replacement plans.
Investigate and resolve engineering issues related to HVAC, BAS controls, plumbing, and fire protection.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical engineering.
Knowledge of mechanical and plumbing engineering principles, energy conservation, sustainable strategies, life cycle cost analysis, and building codes.
Familiarity with architecture, construction methodologies, and electrical systems.
Strong communication, organizational skills, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Valid driver’s license and Maryland Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
LEED Green Associate (GA) or LEED Accredited Professional (AP).
Experience with energy modeling software.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
