Nursing Operations Manager

Description:

Carilion Clinic is seeking a dedicated Nursing Operations Manager for the Critical Care unit at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC) in Christiansburg, VA. This role provides leadership and operational management for the nursing unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, employee engagement, and effective unit performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 24-hour rotating accountability for a direct care nursing unit.

• Lead daily operations, including unit throughput, patient experience rounding, and staff engagement.

• Manage departmental resources, staffing, and budget while promoting cost containment.

• Support facility mission, goals, and organizational objectives through effective team leadership.

• Conduct leadership rounding, providing real-time staff feedback and service recovery.

• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing mix.

• Facilitate daily interdisciplinary rounds to optimize patient care and unit efficiency.

• Collaborate with medical staff to maintain quality patient care and escalate concerns appropriately.

• Represent Carilion Clinic positively in professional and public meetings.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing; BSN required (for non-Magnet facilities, BSN must be obtained within 18 months of hire/transfer).

• Experience: At least 2 years in a clinical nursing role.

• Licensure/Certification: Registered Nurse license in Virginia required; AHA BLS-HCP certification required. ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on unit. De-escalation training required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health units.

• Skills: Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, and priority-setting abilities. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence.
