Operating Room Surgical Technologist

 

Description:

Emory Healthcare is seeking an experienced Operating Room Surgical Technologist to join inter-professional hospital and clinic teams committed to exceptional patient care. Surgical Technologists at Emory assist surgeons and nurses, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and procedures are prepared and executed with precision. This role requires expertise, compassion, and the ability to operate at a high level of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeons and nurses with patient care, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in the operating room.

  • Prepare the operating room for surgery by assembling supplies, instruments, and equipment.

  • Set up and operate specialized instrumentation, including manual and powered equipment.

  • Follow pre- and post-operative procedures for counting and tracking sharps, sponges, and instruments.

  • Maintain sterile surgical supplies and operate sterilization equipment per established protocols.

  • Observe patients for symptoms indicating changes in condition and report findings promptly.

  • Apply thorough knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control.

  • Prepare tissue and specimens for laboratory analysis.

Candidate Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent training. Certification in Surgical Technology preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years multispecialty experience.

  • Ability to function as a clinical expert in at least one service line and float to others.

  • Experience in specialty areas such as Colorectal, GYN, Neuro, ENT, General Surgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Robotics, Thoracic, and Vascular.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification per the American Heart Association.

  • Emory Decatur Hospital’s OR includes a robust Robotics program and multiple specialties.

  • Number of Beds: 22

  • Patient Population: Orthopedics, Robotics-General/Bariatrics, GYN, GYN-Oncology, Urology, Surgical Oncology, Vascular, Pain Management, ENT, Ophthalmology

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1
