We connect care partners with our trained network of peers. This helps people with disabilities enjoy life at home with caring family and friends. With AKALAKA, we handle life together!

Everything we do is built with C.A.R.E., which stands for consistency, affordability, respectfulness, and equity.

About the Job

We need a problem-solver who pays close attention to details. In this job, you will work behind the scenes. You will make sure our computer systems run well. You will also keep our private data safe.

We care about the goals you reach. You will use our Authentic Information (our version of “AI”) tools to help you type and write emails. This saves you time. Then, you can focus on bigger tasks, like fixing tech problems and talking to state offices.

Expected Time: This is a part-time job to start. You will work 20 to 30 hours a week while we set up operations.

What You Will Do

  • Work with State Rules: You will call and work with state offices, like NC Tracks. You will fix problems so our team can get paid for our work serving our community.
  • Collaborate on Billing, Compliance, and Accounting: You will manage the Medicaid billing process. You will look closely at our team's work logs, checking for accuracy in their logged hours and billing details. You will then prepare these for a secondary reviewer to approve before submission to ensure compliance. Additionally, you will act as a liaison to our accountant and bookkeeper, ensuring accounts receivable invoices and tracking for reimbursements are provided on schedule. You will make sure everyone follows the rules and keeps health information private and safe.
  • Provide Tech Support: You will make computer tasks easier for our team. This gives them more time to connect with our community.
  • Room to Grow (Building & AI): As you master the core billing tasks, there will be room to grow. You will use secure, collaborative platforms and safe AI tools to build from scratch: a database for our community, a database of information and resources, and reusable digital templates. You must always check the AI's work to make sure it is true and kind.

Your First 30 Days

We are preparing our team to begin billing via NC Tracks and this depends on a timely, accurate billing process. Your first month will be focused on making meaningful progress toward building systems that help our team reliably earn income from community health plans that cover the cost of the peer support we provide. We want to see how thoughtfully you can use AI to set up our operations. To successfully pass your first 30 days, you will:

  • Design our billing workflow: Help create the core digital forms and templates our team will use to log their hours, ensuring they capture the exact data required for state compliance without slowing the team down.
  • Support accounting readiness: Learn our systems well enough to provide our accountant and bookkeeper with ongoing reporting documentation.
  • Prove your accuracy: Show you can successfully audit test logs to catch errors before they become rejected claims.
  • Make meaningful billing progress: Collaborate with our Founder to navigate the final steps of Community Health Plan billing and make meaningful progress toward submitting our first test bill (which earns you your first $100 goal bonus!)
