IEA Constructors LLC, part of the MasTec Clean Energy & Infrastructure Group, is seeking a Senior Commercial UAS Pilot to join its growing Geomatics Department. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing and executing advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operations, driving geospatial innovation, and ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient aerial data collection to support renewable energy and infrastructure projects nationwide.
The Senior Commercial UAS Pilot will lead high-precision surveying operations using advanced technologies such as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic mapping, ensuring that data collection processes meet the highest professional and safety standards. This role offers a dynamic and travel-intensive environment, where you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of renewable infrastructure development across the United States.
Lead and oversee all UAS operations across multiple project sites, ensuring safety, compliance, and precision in data collection.
Conduct aerial surveys utilizing LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic mapping techniques to deliver accurate geospatial data.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair UAS equipment, including batteries, propellers, and cameras, ensuring readiness for flight operations.
Supervise and mentor Commercial UAS Pilots, fostering professional growth and adherence to best practices.
Develop, refine, and implement departmental UAS standards and training programs for operational excellence.
Ensure all UAS activities comply with FAA regulations, maintaining an active Part 107 certification.
Obtain necessary flight permits and manage local, state, and federal compliance requirements.
Operate additional field equipment such as utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) when required for data collection.
Collaborate closely with project managers, surveyors, and cross-functional teams to provide accurate and actionable data insights.
Communicate progress reports and project updates regularly, identifying challenges and proposing innovative solutions.
Stay informed about emerging drone technologies, integrating new advancements to improve data quality and operational efficiency.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Geospatial Science, Surveying, Aviation, or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of UAS flight operations experience; 2 years in a leadership or senior role.
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification (current and recurrent).
Expertise in LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic mapping data workflows.
Experience using geospatial data software and analytical tools for post-processing.
Advanced understanding of UAS flight systems, GPS, GNSS, and related surveying equipment.
Proficiency in geospatial and data visualization software (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Global Mapper).
Strong ability to read and interpret technical construction plans and schematics.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and team mentoring skills.
High level of technical troubleshooting ability and attention to detail.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in high-pressure project environments.
Strong organizational and documentation skills, ensuring data accuracy and compliance.

This is a traveling position (up to 100%); employees will work on project sites across the U.S., typically 8–12 months per project.
