Description:

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is seeking Seasonal Resource Assistants to join the Bureau of Central Services, Engineering and Field Support Division in Thomaston, CT. This role provides maintenance support for DEEP-managed lands, boat launches, dams, and facilities. The position involves performing general maintenance duties and supporting the operation of state facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and operate DEEP facilities including boat launches, dams, and managed lands.

• Perform tasks such as mowing, trimming, building cleaning, litter pickup, painting, and routine preventive equipment maintenance.

• Assist with operating construction equipment, sawmills, brush cutters, wood chippers, and tractors.

• Conduct light carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, grounds maintenance, and fire crew assistance as required.

• Work in adverse weather conditions and perform heavy lifting when needed.

• Follow instructions and comply with safety procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Ability to follow instructions and perform physical tasks associated with the role.

• Supervisors may require Basic First Aid Certification.

• Certain positions may require:

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator license

  • Pesticide application license

  • College training in a specific field

  • EMT certification

  • ARC Lifeguarding Certification (including CPR for Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid)

• Adequate physical strength and stamina to perform assigned duties.

Work Schedule:

• Up to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

• Duration: Maximum 6 months or 1,040 hours.
