As a Petroleum Inspector, you will be responsible for accessing various client facilities including refineries, tank farms, terminals, and vessels to collect petrochemical samples and conduct quantity surveys. The position involves handling products such as crude oil, diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oil, and other related materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive work instructions from the Operations Supervisor and gather all necessary paperwork for commodity movements.

  • Ensure all sampling and safety equipment is clean, calibrated, and in proper working condition.

  • Travel to client sites, terminals, vessels, or barges to perform sampling and measurement tasks.

  • Obtain samples from tanks, trucks, railcars, and vessels as per client specifications and accurately label them with detailed data.

  • Maintain strict adherence to safety standards and company/regulatory protocols while on-site.

  • Communicate any discrepancies or issues to the Operations Supervisor without delay.

  • Calculate quantities, complete field reports, and distribute documentation accordingly.

  • Transport samples securely to laboratories or client facilities for further analysis.

  • Attend meetings and coordinate effectively with terminal, refinery, or vessel personnel.

  • Maintain 24-hour on-call availability for job requirements.

  • Uphold Bureau Veritas’ professional image, ethics, and operational standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 2–4 years of experience in petroleum sampling, inspection, or a similar field.

  • Proficiency in working with shore tanks, railcars, trucks, and barges.

  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, technical data, and scientific reports.

  • Competency in basic math, including the ability to compute percentages and ratios.

  • Understanding of scientific formulas and the ability to interpret them accurately.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • IFIA/TIC certification

  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

  • Valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance and registration

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally (with assistance).

  • Able to climb stairways, gangways, and ladders.

  • Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, caustic chemicals, and electrical hazards.

  • Required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform hands-on tasks in varied environments.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to mechanical parts, chemicals, and potentially explosive materials.

  • Noise level typically ranges from low to moderate.
