The Portland Art Museum (referred to as Museum) and PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow invites applications for the position of Protection Services Officer I (PSO I). The PSO I is a member of the Protection Services team, which performs a critical role by protecting the safety of visitors, staff and Museum property.
PSOI’s work in various locations throughout the Museum including the lobby, gallery spaces, special exhibits, gift shop/ cafe areas and patrolling. This role will be cross trained to work in these different locations and helps adherence to the “Visitor Agreement to Safe & Inclusive Spaces”.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Acts as the first responder to disruptive persons entering the lobbies and adjacent areas
- Interacts with visitors in a welcoming manner by assisting with wayfinding and providing information related to the Museum collection, public programs, and events
- Safeguard Museum assets, property, equipment, and facilitates against illegal and destructive acts
- Communicate museum policies in a respectful manner using flexibility and discretion to achieve a safe and positive outcome
- Customer service focus at all times
- Maintain gallery capacity and oversees crowd control primarily during high traffic events and exhibitions
- Resolve conflict using de-escalation techniques and upholding equity and inclusion values
- Removes trespassing visitors if needed from the campus who exhibit harassment, discrimination, threatening or disrespectful behaviors
- Communicating with law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical personnel
- Initiating building evacuations
- Communicates important notification functions via phone, email or 2 way radio
- Document activity and write reports in a complete and concise manner
- Opening and closing the Museum
- Gallery inspections
- Responding to requests for assistance
- Assisting with the training of newly hired security officers
- Assisting with building evacuation procedures and sweeps during emergency situations
