Description:
Nitro Biosciences is seeking a Research Scientist to join us on our journey to help translate our novel antigen engineering strategy into longer lasting, more efficacious vaccines. You will be expected to support cell culture activities to produce candidate vaccine antigens as well as preliminary purification efforts. You will design experiments, document results, characterize products, and refine processes to optimize upstream production.
Responsibilities
- Design and test genetic constructs for engineered vaccine production across common expression systems (bacteria, mammalian, insect)
- Culture and maintain mammalian cell lines and insect cell lines for transient transfections or baculovirus expression
- Optimize purification processes for candidate vaccines using fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC)
- Perform characterization of purified proteins including SDS-PAGE, HPLC, MS, ELISA
- Assess vaccine candidate performance via in vitro immunogenicity assays
Qualifications
We are seeking to hire an early career scientist interested in working in a fast-paced startup environment.
Essential Qualifications
- MS in life sciences, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or an adjacent field with at least 3 years of relevant research experience (either academic or professional), or
- BS in life sciences, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or an adjacent field with at least 5 years of relevant research experience (either academic or professional)
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in life sciences, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or an adjacent field
- Experience in mammalian or insect cell culture for large scale protein production
- Experience in affinity tag-based liquid chromatography purification of proteins
- Experience with molecular cloning techniques such as PCR, Gibson assembly, and/or Golden Gate Assembly
- Experience in developing or using in vitro assays with human cell lines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills to convey information effectively across the team
