Description:

Grant Thornton is seeking motivated and detail-oriented students for its Risk Advisory Internship Program for Summer 2026 in Bellevue, WA. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in professional services by assisting with business process reviews, internal audit, SOX compliance, IT controls, and advisory projects. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced professionals to deliver high-quality risk consulting engagements while developing strong technical and professional skills.

This program is designed for students pursuing degrees in accounting, finance, MIS, data analytics, internal audit, or related fields. Interns will gain exposure to both IT Risk and Business Process Risk, allowing them to explore different areas of advisory services and discover where their skills and interests best align.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering client engagements involving business process and information systems controls testing, internal audits, SOX readiness, and IT compliance reviews.

  • Conduct detailed analyses of business and IT processes, assess compliance risks, and document findings.

  • Evaluate and test IT controls using frameworks such as NIST, COBIT, and ISO.

  • Support risk teams in planning engagement strategies, defining objectives, and addressing client issues.

  • Apply firm methodology and analytical models to risk and control assessments.

  • Work with engagement teams to audit emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence applications.

  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of client operations and leverage that knowledge in project delivery.

  • Prepare documentation, reports, and recommendations to improve business processes or IT controls.

  • Collaborate with staff, managers, and partners across all engagement phases – planning, execution, and wrap-up.

  • Contribute to business growth by participating in marketing initiatives and assisting in proposal development.

  • Actively participate in team development by providing feedback and supporting recruiting efforts.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply technical knowledge to client projects.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle simultaneous projects.

  • Interest in pursuing CPA, CIA, or CISA certification (preferred).

  • Proficiency with technology tools, data analysis, and adaptability to rapid technology adoption.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance (with MIS emphasis), Business Administration, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Internal Audit, MIS, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree is a plus.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (overall and major GPA preferred).

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Not required at the internship level but preference given to candidates with intent to pursue CPA, CIA, or CISA.

Experience:

  • Internship role; no prior professional experience required.

  • Academic background in relevant fields and demonstrated technical aptitude preferred.

Additional Notes:

  • This internship offers a competitive pay rate of $40/hour along with medical, dental, and vision insurance, employee assistance programs, and paid sick leave (72 hours minimum).

  • Interns are also paid for firm holidays that fall within their internship period.

  • Travel may be required for certain engagements.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
