Senior Backend Engineer

Description:

Cloudbeds, an award-winning, fully remote hospitality SaaS company, is seeking an experienced Senior Backend PHP Software Engineer to join its dynamic and globally distributed team. As part of the Inventory Team, this role focuses on building core backend systems responsible for hotel rates, availability, and foundational services that drive group bookings and occupancy management across 150+ countries.

This opportunity is ideal for senior-level engineers who enjoy working with service-oriented architectures, modern PHP frameworks, cloud-based systems, and data-intensive backend logic. The role emphasizes quality, scalability, and performance while contributing to the evolution of Cloudbeds’ microservices-based platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, scale, and maintain high-performance backend services for the Cloudbeds platform.

• Collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to shape and lead architectural decisions.

• Write clean, well-documented, testable, and maintainable code.

• Contribute to the platform's microservices migration and modernization efforts.

• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure backend systems.

• Champion software development best practices including code reviews, testing, and design patterns.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering using PHP and object-oriented principles.

• 2+ years working with modern PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Symfony).

• Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly MySQL.

• Proficient in system design, software architecture, and scalable backend logic.

• Business-level fluency in English (verbal and written).

• Demonstrated ability to work with complex data structures or inventory cache systems.

• Comfortable collaborating across product, engineering, and leadership teams.

Preferred (Bonus) Skills:

• Experience with microservice architecture and domain-driven design.

• Familiarity with gRPC and protobuf.

• Experience in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or other cloud-based infrastructure.

• Previous work in a remote-first, globally distributed team environment.
