Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Edison Smart® is currently seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join a high-caliber R&D team in Los Angeles. This role offers a compelling opportunity to work on the development of next-generation wireless communication systems applied in mission-critical domains such as defense, public safety, and commercial industries.

In this hybrid position (4 days on-site), the engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining embedded software systems that power advanced wireless networks. The ideal candidate must bring deep expertise in embedded Linux environments, driver and kernel-level development, and secure systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and develop embedded software for complex wireless communication products.

• Implement MAC layer networking protocols and routing mechanisms.

• Develop board support packages and Linux-based drivers for ARM and RISC-V platforms.

• Create automated tools for performance validation, system diagnostics, and testing.

• Incorporate encryption protocols and ensure adherence to cybersecurity standards.

• Customize embedded Linux environments with scripting and automation.

• Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary engineering teams (software, hardware, RF).

Key Skills & Experience:

• Proficiency in C for embedded systems.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded Linux development.

• Expertise in kernel-level driver development and real-time programming.

• Familiarity with IP networking protocols and socket-level programming.

• Understanding of encryption, authentication, and cybersecurity frameworks.

• Hands-on experience with modern SoCs (ARM Cortex-A, RISC-V, MPSoC).

• Exposure to secure system standards like FIPS 140-3 or NIAP Common Criteria is a plus.
