Senior Product Engineer

 

Description:

Esri, a leader in geographic information systems (GIS) technology, is looking for a Senior Product Engineer to enhance the accessibility of ArcGIS Online and ensure compliance with global web accessibility standards. This role focuses on creating inclusive, user-friendly digital products by implementing robust accessibility measures, conducting detailed testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver accessible solutions at scale.

The selected candidate will act as a key advocate for accessibility, ensuring compliance with regulations such as WCAG, ADA, Section 508, AODA, and the European Accessibility Act, while contributing to Esri’s broader mission of creating positive global change through innovative GIS solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional and workflow-driven accessibility testing using assistive technologies and automated tools to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.

  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, and engineers to address accessibility considerations, prioritize issues, and implement remediations effectively.

  • Manage the intake, tracking, and resolution of accessibility issues reported by internal and external testing teams.

  • Educate and train team members on accessibility tools and best practices, including the use of screen readers, keyboard navigation, and speech recognition software (e.g., Dragon).

  • Maintain and update Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs/VPATs) to document product-specific compliance levels.

  • Partner with leadership and accessibility experts to enhance organizational accessibility strategies and drive continuous improvements.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience developing accessible enterprise web applications.

  • Strong expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a focus on accessibility.

  • In-depth knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, Section 508, AODA, DDA, ARIA).

  • Proficiency with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and Microsoft Narrator.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct accessibility evaluations, manage quality assurance processes, and resolve accessibility challenges.

  • Exceptional communication skills for technical training and stakeholder presentations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Compliance, Computer Science, Human Factors Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS software or other GIS and mapping products.
