Description:
The staff accountant supports finance in daily accounting operations, budgeting, reporting, and compliance for government‑funded programs. Ensures accurate financial processing, strong internal controls, and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support government contract accounting: budgets, financial reports, vouchers, and expense justification for drawdowns.
- Assist with monthly close, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Grant accounting
- Process bi‑weekly payroll and related payroll tasks.
- Record Accounts Receivable and daily banking transactions.
- Support Accounts Payable: update AP, issue payments, and cut checks.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and schedules.
- Prepare financial reports for funders and assist with compliance requirements.
- Maintain GAAP compliance and stay current on federal and NY State accounting policies.
- Provide financial analysis and ensure adherence to internal controls.
- Collaborate with Finance team and support staff across the organization.
- Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2–3 years of accounting experience; nonprofit preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong financial analysis and advanced Excel skills.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
