Survey Party Chief

Description:

Bowman Consulting is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join their Fredericksburg, VA office. The role involves supervising and leading a survey field crew, performing field tasks related to surveying and geospatial data collection, and mentoring junior staff. The Survey Party Chief will work under moderate supervision, ensure high-quality work, and promote Bowman’s capabilities to both new and existing clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise assigned survey field crew on quality and methodology, including training and mentoring.

• Coordinate with contractors to provide survey services.

• Identify property line controls and make decisions regarding survey procedures.

• Gather necessary information and assign tasks efficiently.

• Communicate with clients and management regarding work progress.

• Perform calculations, maintain records, and ensure equipment maintenance.

• Promote the firm’s capabilities and enhance client relationships.

Skills / Abilities:

• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Highly motivated with problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic.

• Effective verbal and written communication.

• Commitment to quality and attention to detail.

• Familiarity with field procedures for boundary and ALTA/NSPS surveys.

• Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, total stations, GPS, and data collection technologies.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Additional Information:

• Physical demands include indoor/outdoor work, mobility around office and job/construction sites, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs, and use of PPE.
