Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Surveyor responsible for assisting a Crew Chief in the operation of a field survey crew. The major objectives of the role include ensuring the quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of work, meeting regulatory requirements, and maintaining positive public relations. Additionally, the surveyor must maintain a safe work environment, protect and maintain equipment and vehicles, and accurately and efficiently collect field data and locate features.

Responsibilities
 

  • Assist the Crew Chief in the operation of a field survey crew.
  • Ensure the accuracy, thoroughness, and regulatory compliance of survey work.
  • Maintain safety standards and protocols on-site.
  • Protect and maintain survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Accurately and efficiently collect field data and locate features.
  • Undertake significant walking outside year-round through various terrains and extreme weather conditions.
  • Handle some overnight travel as required.
     

Essential Skills
 

  • 1 to 2 years of progressive experience in land survey field operations.
  • Proficiency with land survey equipment such as total stations and GPS.
  • Strong self-motivation with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated to learn and develop a career path.
  • Aligned with the company's core values.
  • Sound functional and technical skills in surveying.
     

Additional Skills & Qualifications
 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Good technical skills.
  • Process-oriented, detail-oriented, and precise.
  • EFB data collection experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Cleared BG check and negative drug test result.
     

Work Environment

The work environment involves two main situations: 1) Working on a large project in Lake Lure, which includes redoing the sewer system around the lake in phases. This may involve staying in Airbnbs and alternating work periods of one month on and one or two months off. The project is expected to last about a year. 2) Surveying hundreds of bridges and crossings around Asheville and the mountains. This role does not require full-time travel and will involve weekly swaps to accommodate availability. Additionally, opportunities are open for individuals based in the mountains/Asheville area. The role involves both phone screening and an in-person interview.
