Description:
Current Affairs is seeking an Associate Editor to join their team. The role involves reviewing pitches, recruiting new writers, working closely with writers to shape their articles, and ensuring high-quality content appears in the magazine and online. The editor will play a key role in shaping the publication's voice and vision. As a small media organization, Current Affairs values hard work, dedication, and a passion for producing outstanding editorial content. The position is based in New Orleans, LA, and the organization is willing to cover basic relocation expenses for candidates not currently based in the area.
Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing and editing articles submitted by writers
Recruiting and collaborating with new writers
Shaping articles and offering constructive feedback during revisions
Ensuring content aligns with the distinctive voice and vision of Current Affairs
Taking initiative in improving the magazine's content and vision
Working closely with a small team of staff members in a collaborative, empathetic environment
Potentially writing articles for the magazine if desired
Required Qualifications:
Strong understanding of Current Affairs' editorial style and values
Excellent editing skills with the ability to provide detailed feedback
Compassionate and kind collaborator, capable of working with a small team
A passion for leftist principles and a commitment to fairness and equality in the workplace
Ability to take initiative and drive improvements in content
Experience in editorial work preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications:
Writing experience, with writing samples encouraged
