Description:

The University of Missouri-Kansas City’s nationally recognized Department of Ophthalmology seeks a qualified Assistant or Associate Professor to join its Vision Research Center (VRC). The role focuses on Ocular Regenerative Medicine, including regenerative genetic therapy science, development of bio-artificial ocular tissue, and retinal cell regenerative medical science. The successful candidate will conduct pioneering research, develop externally funded projects, and contribute to the advancement of treatments aimed at preventing vision loss and restoring sight lost due to glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or macular degeneration.

The position includes teaching limited courses to medical and graduate students, collaborating across UMKC’s interdisciplinary teams, and potentially developing innovative research programs. This is a tenure-eligible appointment requiring evidence of success in teaching, externally funded research, and academic service.

Key responsibilities include conducting lab-based experimentation, securing external research funding, and contributing to the Vision Research Center’s mission of advancing ocular regenerative medicine.
