Coatings Application Specialist

Description:

PPG is seeking a Coatings Application Specialist – 2nd Shift to join its Automotive Parts and Accessories organization in Oak Creek, WI. This role plays a critical part in maintaining productivity and efficiency within the APAD Technical and Quality Control Spray Rooms. Reporting to the Applications Supervisor, the specialist will focus on preventative maintenance, applicator and machine repair, development of new processes, and improvement of spray room workflows.

The selected candidate will be hands-on in working with lab associates, maintenance staff, and production personnel. They will prepare and run spray equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure minimal downtime in operations. The role requires a proactive approach to equipment management, repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and continuous contribution to safety, ergonomics, and efficiency improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow all PPG safety standards and promote a safety-first culture.

• Maintain, repair, and modify spray equipment using hand and power tools.

• Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems including air/fluid lines, pumps, regulators, and valves.

• Support lab technicians in equipment preparation and run tests on spray systems.

• Develop and implement process improvements for safety and workflow optimization.

• Provide spray room coverage to minimize downtime.

• Document all work accurately, communicate results, and maintain detailed notebooks.

• Work independently while contributing positively in team settings.

• Proficiently use computer systems such as Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.

• Work a second-shift schedule (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM).

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required.

• Background in spray equipment and maintenance preferred.

• Technical college degree, paint shop experience, or higher STEM degree highly beneficial.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools and industrial equipment.

• Ability to work independently with strong communication and documentation skills.
