Food Service Assistant

 

Description:

Good Samaritan Society, a not-for-profit organization with more than 100 years of service excellence, is seeking a Food Service Assistant – PRN to join its compassionate team at the Maplewood Center in Saint Paul, MN. The facility is a 71-bed community providing post-acute rehabilitation, long-term skilled nursing care, and outpatient therapy programs.

This position is ideal for individuals looking to work in a caring, resident-centered environment that emphasizes quality care, service, and teamwork within a Christian-based mission.


Work Schedule and Shift Details

  • Shift: Evening

  • Schedule: PRN (As Needed)

  • Typical Hours: 4:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. (2 days one week, no hours the next week)


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, serve, and distribute food and beverages to residents and staff in accordance with established menus and dietary requirements.

  • Ensure all food items are maintained at proper temperatures and comply with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards.

  • Set up and maintain clean, organized, and sanitized serving areas and dining spaces.

  • Clean and sanitize food service equipment, utensils, and preparation areas after each meal period.

  • Operate various kitchen equipment such as grills, toasters, dishwashers, beverage machines, steam tables, and refrigerators.

  • Monitor food quantities and restock serving lines and refrigerators as needed.

  • Process transactions and receive payments using a computerized cash register system.

  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service by interacting courteously and professionally with residents, visitors, and team members.

  • Maintain quality control standards and adhere to facility safety, sanitation, and infection control policies.

  • Display teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to work independently when required.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum Age: 16 years or older.

  • Education: High school diploma preferred but not required.

  • Experience: Previous experience in food service, hospitality, or retail customer service preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Basic math and cash handling ability.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

    • Understanding of food safety and sanitation processes.

    • Physical ability to stand for long hours and walk extended distances.

  • Certifications:

    • ServSafe certification may be required (to be obtained within a designated time frame).

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on facility policy.
