Description:

NBCUniversal, a leading global media and entertainment company, is seeking a Freelance Assignment Editor for NBC10 & T62 Philadelphia. This project-based role will manage the editorial and logistical aspects of breaking and developing news coverage, collaborating closely with newsroom and field crews. The position will support coverage planning, research, coordination, and execution, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of news events.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories editorially and logistically for newsroom and field crews.

• Research, coordinate, and implement coverage for news stories.

• Assess quickly what is needed for coverage of breaking stories.

• Book experts and community members to appear on-air as needed.

• Collaborate with website, social media, and streaming teams.

• Maintain communication with affiliates and NBC Network counterparts.

• Monitor news developments and social media for breaking news.

• Work overnight weekend shifts and several weekday shifts; flexible hours required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a broadcast news environment.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Clear communication of ideas and status updates to editorial and technical teams.

• Working knowledge of police scanners.

• Experience coordinating assignments and generating story ideas is a plus.
