Description:

Hinds Community College is currently hiring for a Grounds and Maintenance position based at its Airport Department in Raymond, Mississippi. This is a full-time, on-site role requiring physically intensive work to support airport facilities, grounds, and fueling operations. The role reports directly to the Airport Manager under the Division of Auxiliary Services.

This multifaceted position involves a blend of landscaping, equipment maintenance, fueling operations, and customer service in a dynamic aviation environment. The successful candidate must possess a proactive attitude, strong mechanical skills, and a readiness to work in varied outdoor conditions.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Groundskeeping and Landscaping: Operate lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, tractors, and other landscaping tools to maintain the facility’s grounds. Spray weed killer and manage general landscaping.

  • Maintenance Duties: Perform light to medium maintenance and repairs on all equipment and infrastructure owned by the airport. Assist in maintaining field lighting systems on runways, taxiways, and aprons.

  • Aviation Fuel Handling: Conduct aviation fuel testing, quality control procedures, fuel farm maintenance, and aircraft fueling.

  • Aircraft Ground Operations: Assist in towing, stowing, and general handling of aircraft. Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call rotations as required.

  • Customer Service: Uphold high standards of service and engagement with students, staff, and visitors in accordance with the College’s Caring Campus approach.

Physical Demands:
This is a physically demanding role. The employee must be capable of:

  • Operating power tools and heavy landscaping equipment for extended periods.

  • Climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, using shovels and other hand tools.

  • Working outdoors for long periods in various weather conditions.

  • Performing repetitive tasks and occasional stooping, kneeling, and crawling.

Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain groundskeeping and aviation fueling equipment.

  • Customer service mindset and willingness to work collaboratively with airport personnel and college community.

Work Environment:
