Lead Electrician

 

Description:

The Lead Electrician is expected to act as department leader to mentor apprentices and share specific knowledge with others in the field of electrical maintenance. Under general supervision of designated supervisor, this position performs the work requiring skill in the trade of Electrician for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, fixtures and wiring at UNH. Responsible for providing excellent customer service and producing the highest quality of work and services to multiple technical systems. UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation and has responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal working hours in order to meet the demands of the university. This may include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Manage the UNH approved electrical apprentice program:
 

  • Serve as technical lead to all Operations Apprentice Electricians.
  • Hold regular apprentice meetings and sign off of apprentice time cards in accordance with the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification requirements.
  • Record work including pulling permits for Operations run projects.
  • Primary contact for Facilities Capital Projects and part of design and review process.
     

Service Calls And Customer Service
 

  • Respond to service calls and requests related to the operation, repair, maintenance, and installation and removal of electrical equipment.
  • Ensure work is of the highest quality while meeting all electrical and safety codes.
  • Troubleshoot minor and complex electrical issues and provide expert knowledge on solutions.
  • Utilize electronic sources of trouble shooting and problem identification software.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to requests in a timely manner (according to priority timeframes), communicating status to the customer, and following up when the work is complete.
  • Using the work management software, maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, and respond to emergency situations, including during off hours, as needed.
     

Preventative Maintenance And Project Work
 

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on University electrical equipment, including inspection and hands on preventive maintenance needs.
  • Update and maintain records in the work management software and provide equipment condition assessments.
  • Participate and provide expertise in project management meetings regarding equipment replacement, renovations and new building plans.
  • Complete other electrical assignments as designated.
     

Leadership And Mentorship To The Facilities Division
 

  • Participate, support and demonstrate Facilities Forward concepts which contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities during work activities.
  • Mentor, develop and train apprentices and new employees.
  • Organize and hold trade specific meetings on a re-occurring basis.
  • Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus in the electrical field as needed.
