Marine Elevator Electrician

 

Description:

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a skilled Marine Elevator Electrician to join their Elevator Support Unit (ESU) in San Diego, CA. This role involves working on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators on U.S. Navy ships, performing skilled trades, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical tasks on a variety of shipboard systems and cargo handling equipment. The position requires travel within and outside the continental United States and involves performing installation, repair, and modification of electrical systems with strict adherence to safety and quality procedures.

The ideal candidate will have experience in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and testing of marine electrical systems, along with the ability to read electrical schematics and perform on-site installations. The role demands both independent and collaborative work, interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors, and occasionally performing tasks outside the core specialty to meet project requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify marine elevator and associated equipment.

  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures to quickly resolve malfunctions.

  • Conduct on-site installation while adhering to safety, quality control, and testing protocols.

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics for effective maintenance and repair.

  • Develop and utilize technical documents such as work packages, formal processes, test reports, and trip reports.

  • Interface with customers, provide direction to subcontractors, and report progress to senior management.

  • Work in various shipboard and industrial environments, including confined spaces and elevated areas.


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, Trade School, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in electrical systems maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access credentials and DoD Secret Clearance.

  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

  • Must provide own hand tools as required by the trade specialty.

Preferred:

  • Experience with marine hydraulic electrical systems.

  • Prior shipboard experience.

  • Active or current DoD Secret Clearance or higher.

  • Related technical training, degrees, or certifications.

  • Experience with shipboard aircraft elevators, ordnance handling equipment, or vertical package conveyors.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (minimum 30 lbs).

  • Work in extreme temperatures, high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.

  • Climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks aboard ships and in shipyards.

  • Travel for extended periods, including at-sea assignments.

  • May require wearing a respirator and working aloft or over vessel sides.
