Description:
Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a skilled Marine Mechanic to join its Elevator Support Unit (ESU) team in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, on-site position that involves travel between 26% and 50%. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and sustainment of U.S. Navy shipboard systems critical to national defense.
As a Marine Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled trades, technical maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks on shipboard aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems, weapons elevators, and vertical stores conveyors. Daily responsibilities include providing technical direction, managing subcontractors, interfacing with customers, developing technical documents, and conducting briefings for customers and senior leadership. The position also involves hands-on physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment, requiring adaptability to challenging conditions such as confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and shipyard environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform installation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
Read, interpret, and apply mechanical/hydraulic drawings and schematics.
Calibrate and conduct minor repairs on tools and equipment.
Develop technical documentation including work packages, procedures, reports, and test documentation.
Support shipboard operations, including working aloft, over the sides of vessels, or at sea for extended periods.
Provide direction to teams, subcontractors, and junior staff when necessary.
Requirements:
High School diploma, Trade School, or equivalent.
Minimum 6 years of related hands-on marine/mechanical experience.
Must provide own hand tools for trade specialty.
Proficiency in mechanical/hydraulic system troubleshooting and maintenance.
Ability to perform safe and accurate installation following established quality and testing procedures.
U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance and base access credentials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience maintaining and repairing shipboard aircraft elevators, ordnance handling equipment, or vertical package conveyors.
Prior shipboard operational experience.
Technical training, certifications, or degrees in related disciplines.
Current or active DoD Secret Clearance preferred.
Familiarity with electro-mechanical and hydraulic systems in a marine environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing 30 lbs. or more.
Comfortable working in industrial environments with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, and confined spaces.
Ability to climb ladders, work aloft, and operate in shipyard/shipboard conditions.
May require wearing a respirator and traveling outside continental U.S.
