Description:
Gannett’s Gainesville Sun is seeking a full-time visual journalist skilled in video, photography, and social media to join their digital-first team. The role focuses on capturing compelling stories about people, events, and places primarily in North Central Florida, with special emphasis on University of Florida and local high school sports. The candidate will produce high-quality visual storytelling across platforms including YouTube and Instagram, working closely with reporters and editors.
Key Responsibilities:
Create engaging visual content through photography, videography, and written text.
Use video editing software like Adobe Premiere and work comfortably with streaming/audio tech.
Apply SEO strategies to optimize audience reach.
Use audience data to guide coverage decisions.
Engage with the community through social media, on-camera appearances, and outreach.
Collaborate with editorial staff to create impactful stories and series.
Cover daily news and longer-term enterprise projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, photography, or equivalent education/experience.
Strong photojournalism skills including reporting, photography, and videography.
Proficiency in video editing and image software: Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Photo Mechanic.
Self-motivated, organized, able to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
Knowledge of media law and ethics.
Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively.
