Description:
APTIM seeks a highly motivated Practice Director to lead strategy development for the growth of our new facility permitting and regulatory approvals business serving data centers, power generation, battery storage. This is a client-facing, market-building leadership role focused on business development, client relationships, and regulatory strategy. The Practice Director will work closely with internal technical teams and external partners to pursue, win and deliver permitting and regulatory service solutions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong network with hyperscaler, and data center developers and a demonstrated ability to originate and grow consulting and services programs.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Develop and execute go to market strategy targeting hyperscalers and co-location operators
- Build the practice drawing upon the resources of an ENR top 5 ranked environmental consulting firm, and your own network of sales and technical professionals.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with target hyperscaler clients, developers, and data center operators.
- Lead value proposition and proposal development, client presentations, and commercial negotiations.
- Provide governance with support for various permitting strategies including air quality, NPDES, stormwater, Sec. 401/404 compliance.
- ting engagements, including permitting roadmaps, agency coordination, site due diligence, and programmatic permitting support.
- Support cross-selling and integrated solution development with complementary services to expand existing client relationships and generate repeat business.
- Cultivate relationships with strategic partners, including specialty consultants, legal advisors, and subcontractors.
- Monitor market conditions, regulatory trends, and competitor positioning to maintain a strong market presence.
- Represent the firm at industry events, client meetings, and conferences to expand brand recognition and market penetration.
- Travel as required to support client engagement and business development activities (up to approximately 50%).
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Deep expertise with relevant regulations e.g., NEPA, Clean Air Act (Title V, NSR, GHG permitting, Clean Water Act, and fundamental state-level regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with regulatory framework related to utility interconnection, contingent/temporary power systems and energy storage.
- Familiarity with data center development lifecycles
- Experience building and leading a practice for a professional services firm and or experience on the owner/developer/operator side of data center development and operation.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- Documented experience supporting project or program delivery.
Desired / Preferred Qualifications
- Established relationships within data centers, power generation, battery storage, advanced manufacturing, utilities, or large industrial developers.
- Experience helping build or scale a service line or practice, including mentoring staff and developing repeatable offerings.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
- Familiarity with multi-jurisdictional permitting and complex stakeholder environments
