Principal Enterprise Architect

Description:

United Airlines is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to lead the architectural design and strategy of enterprise applications supporting Crew Records, Pay, and Training systems, along with various integrations. This role involves design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and performant systems while guiding technical teams on best practices for large-scale systems. The Principal Enterprise Architect will collaborate with domain architects, engineers, and leaders to develop technical standards, reference architectures, design patterns, and frameworks that support integration and innovation across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the architectural design and strategy of enterprise applications and integrations.

• Collaborate with technical teams to develop and manage a technical strategy.

• Guide and mentor teams on best practices for system design, infrastructure integrations, and application development.

• Manage architecture review processes, validate artifacts, and provide domain-specific guidance.

• Apply architectural and engineering concepts to ensure scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, availability, and manageability.

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and observability tools (Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk).

• Conduct research and develop Proof of Concepts on emerging technologies.

• Create communities to support adoption of design patterns and evangelize best practices.

• Translate business strategy into technical strategy, defining end-to-end technology architectures.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

• Minimum 7 years of experience in enterprise architecture.

• Strong knowledge of Domain Driven Development.

• Expertise in hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure (AWS).

• Proficient in DevOps practices including CI/CD, automation, and observability tools.

• Solid understanding of security best practices and vulnerability management.

• Proficient in data architecture, governance, and security, including relational and non-relational databases.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science.

• 3-5+ years of AWS experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Base pay: $137,275 – $178,670 per year.

• Eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
