Description:
SpaceX is actively developing technologies to make human life on Mars possible. The Sr. Maintenance Engineer for Starlink is responsible for providing engineering support for planned and unplanned repairs, modifications, and upgrades of production equipment. This role is critical in maximizing equipment availability, enabling Starlink to meet its mission objectives. The engineer will lead technical troubleshooting, perform root cause analysis, and manage equipment improvement projects from concept to implementation. This position offers a fast-paced, challenging environment with opportunities to mentor technicians, collaborate across engineering disciplines, and contribute to high-impact projects in aerospace technology.
Responsibilities:
Lead maintenance technicians in troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, fluid, and pneumatic equipment failures
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective measures
Manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity simultaneously
Solve complex, open-ended problems efficiently
Mentor technicians in troubleshooting, RCA, and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, GD&T, and P&IDs
Lead equipment improvement projects in collaboration with Engineering teams
Coordinate internal and third-party resources for repairs, overhauls, and upgrades
Create and update preventative maintenance instructions
Interface with engineering, quality, production, and procurement to remove production blockers
Review failure modes and optimize spare parts inventory
Provide leadership in utilization of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
Required Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
4+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, Jira, SQL, and PowerBI
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, GD&T, and P&IDs
Preferred Skills and Experience:
5+ years troubleshooting technical problems in manufacturing
Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly, high-volume production, and technical specialization
Knowledge of process development, facility/line layouts, FMEA, error-proofing
Experience with MRP, ERP, and CMMS systems
Experience leading technicians and coordinating projects with contractors
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work with urgency
Additional Requirements:
Physical effort: standing, lifting up to 25 lbs, working outdoors as needed
Extended hours and occasional weekend work
Up to 10% travel
ITAR compliance: U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for required authorizations
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary: $125000 - $175000 per year (base salary depends on knowledge, skills, education, and experience)
