This position is in BASF’s Lithium-ion Battery Research and Development group in Beachwood, OH. The Senior Pilot Plant Technician carries out daily work in the calcination pilot plant.
During your day shift as a Senior Technician, you will
- Operate a wide variety of calcination pilot equipment (mixers, mills, furnaces, blenders, etc).
- Carry out and support calcination of cathode active materials (5-100kg scale).
- Precise and accurate preparation of raw materials according to stoichiometric requirements.
- Must be capable of repeated lifting and transfer of 50lb sacks.
- Comfortable wearing PAPR and other safety equipment 6-8 hours per day.
- Analyze samples for physical and chemical characteristics and provide summary to manager using Particle Size Analyzer, moisture analyzer, etc. Generates data which is reliable from which correct conclusions and recommendations can be made.
- Record and communicate testing results.
- Keep accurate, current records and logs; provide clearly written experimental observations and results for technical reports; provide data and documentation required for technical documents and patents.
- Create experiments and maintain documentation in electronic lab journal.
- Resolves minor problems, adapting non-conforming samples to routine preparation and procedures.
- Responsible for inventory management and preparation of shipping documents for sample shipments.
- Submission of samples for analytical testing and entering reported analytical results into electronic databases.
- Participate in all functional team activities (safety, housekeeping, etc.).
- Complete daily housekeeping of work area including proper storage and management of sample inventory.
If you...
- BS in Chemistry/Material Science/Chemical Engineering or related science field plus 3 years experience; or Associate degree in Chemistry/Material Science/Chemical Engineering or related science field plus 5 years of experience; or high school education with 7 years of working experience in a laboratory environment.
- Excellent laboratory skills, including detailed record keeping and knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
- Detail oriented; understanding of and experience with stoichiometric calculations.
- Demonstrated experience with instrumentation and analytical methods.
- Strong focus and exposure to safety protocols in the pilot plant.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required.
