Sr Lead, Software Engineer

Description:

Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 global financial institution with over 130 years of experience, is hiring a Sr Lead, Software Engineer for its Cash and Corporate Technology team. The selected candidate will lead development and support efforts for the core cash processing applications, coordinating closely with product, architecture, infrastructure, and business teams.

This is a full-time on-site position based in Chicago, IL, and requires strong technical, leadership, and communication capabilities to manage development projects, incident responses, production support, and disaster recovery readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and support team for cash processing systems

• Assign and oversee technical tasks and project deliverables ensuring quality and timely completion

• Collaborate with solution architects, product managers, and vendors to develop business solutions

• Handle production incidents (Level 3 support), ensuring fast resolution and communication

• Manage change implementations, DR testing, and major production releases including weekends if needed

• Maintain clear and updated technical documentation and support repositories

• Act as a liaison with upstream/downstream teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

• 10–12 years in application development (preferably in financial services/banking)

• Strong experience with Unix, Oracle, enterprise web application architectures

• Proficient in MTS/UPF, Entia DB, RGW, Shell scripting, IBM MQ, and Solace

• Hands-on with batch support tools like Control-M and monitoring platforms like Dynatrace, CA APM, Sitescope

• Familiarity with ServiceNow for ITSM

• Experience leading technical teams and working in Agile methodologies

• Excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Skills:

• Understanding of financial systems and enterprise architecture

• Working knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, application servers, and enterprise networking concepts

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary range: $114500 to $194700 annually
