A Senior Staff Scientist position in the Computational Biology Program, Human Biology Division, and Precision Oncology is available immediately. Candidates who are excited about driving projects and leading teams in applying bioinformatics, data science, machine learning, and explainable AI approaches to large/complex ‘omics’ data in the field of cancer research are encouraged to apply. We have established a research team working with interdisciplinary collaborators who have expertise in genomics, genetics, experimental biology, cancer biology, and clinical cancer research. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive experience in applying computational and analytical approaches to study genomics and epigenetics of cancer.

Responsibilities:

The research projects and responsibilities for this Staff Scientist position include:

  • Perform rigorous analysis of cancer genomes to understand tumor phenotype, progression, evolution, heterogeneity, metastasis, and treatment resistance.
  • Implement analysis tools/pipelines and interpretation of results for coding and non-coding genome alterations, chromosome copy number alterations, genome rearrangements and 3D structure, and mutational signatures.
  • Collaborate with Fred Hutch scientists to refine computational research questions and identify opportunities for implementing novel computational, statistical and machine learning methods to large datasets including genetic and omics data.
  • Identify and implement appropriate bioinformatic tools for analyzing sequence data from tumor genomes including long-range sequencing and emerging genomic technologies and advances.
  • Develop and use computational approaches to analyze circulating tumor DNA from liquid biopsies.
  • Drive the preparation of manuscripts and contribute to research grant applications.
  • Implementation, maintenance, and application of best practices in large-scale data management.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, computer/electrical engineering, physics, or other related fields with a focus on applying computation analysis of large sequence-based molecular data in an academic research lab or industry setting.
  • Publication of peer reviewed article in the field of cancer genomics
  • Proficiency in programming languages and environments (e.g. Python, R, linux command line, cluster computing, cloud computing, workflow management).
  • A minimum of 5 years Post-Doctoral experience in computational genomics or related fields
