Vass Inc is hiring a Teradata GCP Data Engineer on a W2 contract basis for an on-site role in Hartford, CT. This position is part of a critical enterprise-level data warehouse migration initiative, moving data and ETL pipelines from Teradata to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Candidates must be legally eligible to work on W2 (GC, USC, or H4EAD), and C2C applicants will not be considered.

This role demands advanced expertise in data engineering, particularly Teradata and GCP tools, and involves hands-on development, migration planning, pipeline creation, performance optimization, and post-migration monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the migration of data warehouse assets and ETL workflows from Teradata to GCP using services like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc, and Composer (Airflow).

• Map and analyze Teradata workloads and redesign them in GCP architecture.

• Rewrite Teradata SQL and BTEQ logic into GCP-compatible SQL, ensuring data and process integrity.

• Develop automated ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Apache Beam, Informatica, or custom Python/Java scripts.

• Optimize cloud data environments for performance, cost, and scalability.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and data architects for validation, data governance, and compliance.

• Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms for both migration and production workloads.

Required Skills:

• 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering, including 2+ years in GCP-based solutions.

• Strong knowledge of Teradata, including BTEQ scripting and complex SQL.

• Proficiency in BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Dataproc, Composer, and Pub/Sub.

• Experience in ETL/ELT design and implementation, preferably with Informatica, Apache Beam, or custom scripting.

• Proven ability to translate and refactor legacy Teradata logic to GCP equivalents.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and DevOps in cloud environments.

• Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• GCP Professional Data Engineer Certification or equivalent.

• Exposure to Apache Kafka, Cloud Functions, AI/ML pipelines in GCP.

• Domain experience in healthcare, finance, or retail is advantageous.

• Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, and data governance.
