Intellectual Property Attorney

Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, a prominent law firm with offices in Albany and Poughkeepsie, NY, is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Attorney with 7+ years of practice in the field. This role offers hybrid flexibility (two remote days per week) and is suited for candidates with a deep understanding of protecting intellectual property assets across a variety of sectors, including businesses, research institutions, educational entities, and non-profits.

The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive experience in domestic and international trademark and copyright registration, intellectual property portfolio management, and drafting and negotiating various IP-related agreements. The role includes working on software licensing, SaaS agreements, and transactional IP work such as licensing of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Candidates with intellectual property litigation experience are encouraged to apply, though litigation is not required.

This position also offers a highly competitive salary with potential for lateral partnership consideration for attorneys with an established book of business. Admission to practice in New York is required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage trademark and copyright registration (domestic and foreign)

• Handle IP portfolio management for institutional and corporate clients

• Draft and negotiate agreements involving creation, development, acquisition, and use of IP assets

• Negotiate software licensing and SaaS agreements

• Conduct IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions

• Provide legal advice on IP protections and compliance matters

• (Optional) Handle litigation matters related to intellectual property

Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of relevant legal experience in Intellectual Property law

• Admission to practice law in New York State is required

• Strong drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills

• Experience advising businesses, non-profits, and research/educational organizations

• IP litigation experience is a plus but not mandatory
