Registered Nurse

Description:

Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse – Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Department (ED) at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center (OLGMC) on a full-time basis. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering life-saving care in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The nurse will utilize the full spectrum of nursing practices under the Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code for Nurses, ensuring top-tier care to patients with acute or life-threatening conditions.

As a vital member of the ED team, the RN is expected to provide leadership, delegate responsibilities effectively, and coordinate with interdisciplinary staff while maintaining compassionate, culturally sensitive, and high-quality nursing care. This position also requires active participation in achieving the department's strategic goals and improving outcomes for a diverse patient population.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

• Deliver care that is culturally, ethically, and religiously sensitive.

• Lead, guide, and support ancillary and licensed staff in care delivery.

• Provide patient and family education tailored to individual learning needs.

• Maintain a high level of professionalism, clinical judgment, and accountability.

• Utilize data and evidence-based practices to influence care quality and outcomes.

• Adapt approach and communication styles to accommodate diverse populations.

• Contribute to the unit’s morale, patient satisfaction, and professional development of peers.

• Perform physical tasks and emergency interventions as required in a high-pressure environment.

• Uphold privacy, safety, and infection prevention standards in every patient interaction.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana (or eligible for licensure).

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification within 30 days of hire.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

• Certification in a clinical specialty area

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Organizational skills and time management

• Effective use of digital health tools and applications

• Sound judgment in high-stress clinical environments

• Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team

Physical & Environmental Demands:

• Heavy Work: Must be able to exert 50–100 lbs occasionally and handle prolonged standing and movement.

• Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and communicable diseases is routine.

• Work is performed directly in patient care areas with strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
