Description:
Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse – Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Department (ED) at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center (OLGMC) on a full-time basis. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering life-saving care in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The nurse will utilize the full spectrum of nursing practices under the Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code for Nurses, ensuring top-tier care to patients with acute or life-threatening conditions.
As a vital member of the ED team, the RN is expected to provide leadership, delegate responsibilities effectively, and coordinate with interdisciplinary staff while maintaining compassionate, culturally sensitive, and high-quality nursing care. This position also requires active participation in achieving the department's strategic goals and improving outcomes for a diverse patient population.
Apply the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Deliver care that is culturally, ethically, and religiously sensitive.
Lead, guide, and support ancillary and licensed staff in care delivery.
Provide patient and family education tailored to individual learning needs.
Maintain a high level of professionalism, clinical judgment, and accountability.
Utilize data and evidence-based practices to influence care quality and outcomes.
Adapt approach and communication styles to accommodate diverse populations.
Contribute to the unit’s morale, patient satisfaction, and professional development of peers.
Perform physical tasks and emergency interventions as required in a high-pressure environment.
Uphold privacy, safety, and infection prevention standards in every patient interaction.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana (or eligible for licensure).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification within 30 days of hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Certification in a clinical specialty area
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Organizational skills and time management
Effective use of digital health tools and applications
Sound judgment in high-stress clinical environments
Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
Heavy Work: Must be able to exert 50–100 lbs occasionally and handle prolonged standing and movement.
Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and communicable diseases is routine.
Work is performed directly in patient care areas with strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
