Registered Respiratory Therapist

Description:

Ochsner Health, a leading healthcare provider with a legacy dating back to 1942, is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RT-CRT) to join its team in Gretna, Louisiana. This role involves delivering comprehensive respiratory care, including oxygen services, diagnostic testing, ventilation support, and related therapeutic procedures for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.

Key responsibilities include setting up, monitoring, and weaning oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, performing arterial blood gas (ABG) analyses and EKGs, assisting with artificial airway management, and educating both patients and co-workers on treatment procedures. The position demands strong attention to patient safety, effective communication, and adherence to established policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to high-quality patient care, be proficient in computer systems and Windows-based applications, and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. This role also entails physical demands, including heavy lifting, extended periods of standing or sitting, and potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.

Education & Certifications:

• Required Education: Associate's Degree

• Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

• Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice

  • National Board of Respiratory Care certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – within 90 days of hire

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – within 90 days of hire

Key Skills & Abilities:

• Proficiency in computer systems and data entry

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Knowledge of respiratory care protocols and patient education techniques

• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Ability to exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly

• Must be able to stoop, bend, lift, and stand for prolonged periods

• Work involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and potentially hazardous materials
