Description:

Prairie View A&M University is seeking a Research Specialist II to join its Adloc Cooperative Agriculture and Research Center. The role involves conducting advanced research on crop growth, development, and responses to environmental factors using physiological and molecular genetics tools. The ultimate goal of the research program is to advance knowledge of plant physiological and molecular mechanisms controlling crop yield and translate this knowledge into improved resource use efficiency and crop production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow plants in greenhouses, plant growth chambers, and in the field.

  • Phenotype morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties of plants.

  • Conduct molecular characterization of mutant plants.

  • Design experiments, perform data analysis, and conduct bioinformatics tasks.

  • Prepare manuscripts and grant proposals.

  • Train and supervise technicians and undergraduate students.

  • Manage lab and greenhouse research projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in crop sciences, plant physiology, molecular genetics, or related field.

  • Six years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skills in basic molecular biology, including isolating and analyzing DNA and RNA.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert heavy force.

  • Willingness to work beyond normal business hours and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in crop sciences or related field with focus on plant physiology, molecular genetics, or breeding.

  • Research experience characterizing plant growth and development in response to environmental factors.

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
