Senior Database Administrator

 

Description:

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for all functions associated with the implementation and maintenance of SQL Server databases including tuning, high availability, virtualization, security, backup logging, reporting and recovery procedures.

Job Duties
 

  • Partner with business units to develop application implementation strategy, and configure, maintain critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications
  • Define and implement key database performance metrics and develop remediation plans and lead implementation as appropriate
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
  • Manage high availability clusters and availability groups to support business requirements
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
  • Design and implement automation processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
  • Act as a subject matter expert to share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members
  • Provide 24/7 support with rotating on-call duties after hours within predetermined and agreed upon service expectations

Essential Skills
 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in database administration including database security, design, data modeling, capacity planning, high availability solutions and disaster recovery; experience in the financial services industry is preferred
  • Experience in implementing recovery procedures and disaster recovery function to protect the MS SQL database
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and MS SQL Server (current versions), including the use of all SQL troubleshooting tools
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills and the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to resolve complex issues with minimal direction
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to express ideas concisely and logically
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems is preferred
  • Certification/License: MS SQL is preferred
