Assistant Stylist

Description:

Ulta Beauty is seeking an Assistant Stylist to join their South Portland, ME location. This temporary role is designed to prepare talent for a Stylist position while delivering exceptional professional services focused on the guest’s total look. The Assistant Stylist will be mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first 3 months and will gradually take on their own clients in months 4–6.

Key responsibilities include consulting with guests on hair care needs, recommending products and services, performing salon services (such as shampoo, blowouts, styling, color, foils, treatments, updos, perms, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable), and executing in-store events and promotions. The role emphasizes performance, people, and process, including maximizing productivity, providing excellent guest service, and adhering to Ulta Beauty’s operating procedures and compliance standards.

Assistant Stylists are expected to maintain knowledge of industry trends, products, and services, develop relationships with guests and team members, ensure operational standards of the salon and salesfloor, and comply with safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

• Cosmetology license

• Basic understanding of salon techniques in haircutting, coloring, styling, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing

• Basic knowledge of equipment and chemicals used in technical work

• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

• Aptitude to develop skills and capabilities in all service categories
